Bicha de Balazote (MAN, Madrid)
La Bicha de Balazote (llamada así por el pueblo de la provincia de Albacete donde fue encontrada) es una de las figuras prehistóricas más importantes encontradas en España. Se trata de un toro androcéfalo, llamado Aqueloo, una divinidad fluvial prehelénica. La escultura tiene influencia griega con un sustrato oriental. Está hecho de piedra caliza y formaba parte de un monumento funerario, hoy perdido. Está datado entre finales del siglo VI y principios del V a.C.
The Bicha de Balazote (named after the village in the province of Albacete where it was found) is one of the most important pre-Roman figures found in Spain. It is an androcephalous bull, representing Achelous, a Pre-Hellenic river divinity. The sculpture has Greek influence with an Eastern substrate. It is made of limestone and formed part of a funerary monument, now lost. It is dated around between the end of the 6th and beginning of the 5th century BC.
