Imagen muy representativa de la fundadora de la orden de Santa Clara, con el hábito de Clarisa y sus atributos iconográficos: la palma victoriosa sobre la muerte y la custodia con la rechazó a los sarracenos en Asís. Modelo y técnica son propios de este artista anónimo castellano, que Diego Angulo denominó en 1940 como Maestro del Portillo, a partir del retablo De la Iglesia de San Esteban de Portillo. El tratamiento suave de los rasgos faciales de la religiosa recuerda la pintura de la region francesa de Picardía (por su situación geográfica al norte, en contacto con la pintura flamenca) de finales del Siglo XV, a la vez que permanecen algunos detalles góticos, como la custodia o el delicado dibujo a cincel de dorado. Del mismo autor, conserva el monasterio vallisoletano un conjunto de tablas de la vida de Santa Clara y San Francisco, pertenecientes a un retablo desmembrado, pero del que no parece formar parte.

This is a highly representative image of the founder of the Order of Saint Clare, wearing the habit of the Poor Clares and her iconographic attributes: the palm tree victorious over death and the monstrance with which she repelled the Saracens in Assisi. The model and technique are characteristic of this anonymous Castilian artist, whom Diego Angulo named the Master of Portillo in 1940, based on the altarpiece of the Church of San Esteban in Portillo. The gentle treatment of the nun's facial features is reminiscent of the painting of the French region of Picardy (due to its northern geographical location, in close contact with Flemish painting) from the late 15th century, while some Gothic details remain, such as the monstrance and the delicate gilt chisel pattern. By the same artist, the Valladolid monastery preserves a set of panels depicting the lives of Saint Clare and Saint Francis, belonging to a dismembered altarpiece, but of which they do not appear to be part.
